The St. Mary school community has long enjoyed a wonderful breakfast program serving all of our students on a daily basis. Covid-19 brought the traditional delivery of this service to a halt. Because of hygiene and social distancing measures we could no longer operate in our foods service classroom. Through brainstorming, and the determination to continue, a small breakfast kiosk was set up in the student council office. The kiosk may be small but plentiful and healthy snacks are still the norm on our menu.
Students received an email to inform them that the breakfast program is once again in operation. This demonstrates that, although we are experiencing many changes, we are thinking outside the box to engage students in healthy eating. The research indicates that a healthy breakfast is important for teens as it improves their energy levels, memory, creativity and mood (healthcare.ascesnsion.org, 2017).
A big shout out to Mr. Pados and our EA team for making this program continue at our school. Bon Appetit!
